Our Philosophy
The 9 branches of Melcombe…
Move
Gentle yoga, mindful movement, stretching, restorative practice, woodland walks and optional strength sessions help the body rediscover ease, energy and balance.
Personal Practice
Every guest enjoys individual yoga therapy sessions with both Colin and Miranda. Together we create a personal practice designed around your body, your life and your aspirations, giving you something lasting to take home.
Create
For those who wish, afternoons may include creative writing, painting or simple artistic practices that encourage curiosity, playfulness and fresh perspectives.
Breathe
Breath is at the heart of everything we teach. Through simple breathing practices we calm the nervous system, reduce stress and create the stillness needed for meditation and deep rest.
Sound
Yoga has always recognised sound as a powerful tool for transformation. From mantra and simple vocal practices to learning traditional Sanskrit chants, sound forms a quiet thread running through the weekend.
Nourish
Food is central to life at Melcombe. Our private chef prepares beautiful seasonal meals using organic and locally sourced ingredients wherever possible. Expect colourful farm-to-table feasts, generous breakfasts and memorable picnics by the sea.
Renew
Time away creates space to reflect. Through conversation, guided practices and one-to-one sessions, we help you establish simple daily rituals that you can take home long after the retreat ends.
Nature
Melcombe sits high above the River Exe in the heart of Exmoor National Park. The landscape is wild, ever-changing and deeply peaceful. Whether walking the moor, exploring ancient woodland or swimming on the North Devon coast, nature becomes an essential part of the retreat experience.
Rest
With only six bedrooms, Melcombe feels more like staying with old friends than visiting a retreat. Every room has its own gentle colour palette inspired by the surrounding landscape, combining comfort, natural materials and quiet simplicity to encourage deep sleep and complete rest.
